The Governing Council has approved a grant of 44,000 euros for the creation of the Interpretation Centre of the Sierra paleontologic sites Quibo in Abanilla, action that is part of the Intervention Plan Paleontological Heritage Region of Murcia.
The center, which will be located in the municipal auditorium Abanilla and whose operation is scheduled for late 2009, will convey to visitors in a pleasant and teaching through information panels and audio-visual animation, the progress achieved in the digs.
Also disclose the history of the site, its geological context, the structure of the scientific project and his team and the presentation of the most significant mammal species identified so far.
The fossil site has provided more than 60 different species among vertebrates and invertebrates, some of them with a very complete fossil record and abundant.
The identified remains poorly understood for animals that inhabited the southeast peninsula at the beginning of the Pleistocene, about 1,300,000 years.
