The solar farms in the Region of Murcia and produce enough energy to power more than 100,000 homes (22/09/2008)

The Murcia region already produces enough solar energy to supply over 100,000 households, reaching 269.37 megawatts (MW) of installed capacity.

This was said today the regional secretary for the Sustainability of the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Planning, Paul Fernandez, who along with Mayor Abanilla, Fernando Molina, inaugurated the first photovoltaic solar plant in the municipality.

Fernandez said that "through the significant effort made by the Ministry of Sustainable Development for the establishment of plants producing clean energy, together with the best conditions of the region for solar energy, there are now 4,734 home gardens are producing photovoltaic electricity , with an annual production of 43,992 megawatt hours, equivalent to the consumption of 105,171 homes, and prevent the emission of 172,396 tons of carbon dioxide. "

In particular, the solar plant opened in Abanilla Enerficaz promoted by the company, has an installed capacity of 1.54 megawatts, will produce 2,988 MWh per year and prevent the emission of 2,900 tons of CO2.

In total, 9,736 solar modules installed on the five acres of land occupied by the solar plant.

The regional secretary for Sustainability said: "This solar garden promoted by Enerficaz is unique in that the capital comes from small investors, a total of 73, which demonstrates its commitment to the environment and have decided to support the production of solar energy your savings, a growing sector, innovative and environmentally friendly, whose future is seriously threatened by a new decree being prepared by the central government, not counting the sector or with the autonomous communities. "

Criticism of the decree

The regional government is against the limitations that seeks to impose the new decree on photovoltaic solar energy, which has been agreed, and has created great uncertainty.

Among other things, the decree limits the power that can be installed and the premium for clean energy production.

"In fact, in regard to the new royal decree that hope and fear, the main problem is limited to 100 megawatts of power installed in Spain a year, if only in the Region of Murcia and projects are requested in excess of that power.

This represents a major setback for the region, which is a European power in solar energy production, which we strongly supported from the regional government, as it is a sector based on the R & D & I respect the environment " concluded Fernández.
