The presidential advisor, Manuel Campos, reported today in Cartagena that the Autonomous Community has initiated the necessary actions to promote environmental restoration in the Sierra de Abanilla, "in order to recover and restore its natural environment."

Campos made the remarks during his appearance in the Regional Assembly, where he explained the current status of municipal solid waste landfill, located in the municipality of Abanilla and exploited by the commercial Proambiente SL

The autonomic responsible Environment said that the activity of municipal solid waste landfill "is completely ceased" in the landfill, as ordered in the commercial decision of the Directorate General Environment of the Ministry of the Presidency and subsequently, Order of the Hearing, dated December 16, 2011.

In addition, the Department moved to the company the obligation to submit within three months a draft environmental sealing and restoration, to include maintenance costs and environmental monitoring of the landfill after the closing.

Campos said, the result of this requirement by the Ministry, are now available a preliminary study that forms the basis for definitive restoration project and added that the same solutions are proposed for the recovery and compensation, and a program of actions that are being valued by experts from the Directorate General of Environment.

In this regard, he stressed that the draft environmental sealing and restoration is an "action necessary to restore this area of ​​high ecological value and restore its splendor, beauty and natural wealth."

Strict compliance with environmental legislation

This action, said the adviser, is the result of "good environmental policies implemented by the regional government," which, after doing a series of technical inspections, "actions that could detect serious violations of environmental regulations," so the counselor ordered the opening of the corresponding penalty, which is currently in the process of preliminary proceedings.

The Regional Administration, said Campos, has acted "in full vigor in the comprehensive protection of the environment, as is shown by the various open disciplinary proceedings so far and the close collaboration of the Ministry of the Presidency with the Office of Environment".
