The Fiestas in Honor of the Holy Cross and Moors and Christians of Abanilla will be held this year from April 27 to May 6 with the aim of achieving the Declaration of National Tourist Interest;
a process for which its organizers have the support of the regional government, as affirmed today by the Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Environment, Javier Celdrán.
The councilor met today with the mayor of Abanilla, Ezequiel Alonso, and a delegation composed of representatives of the Brotherhood of the Most Holy Cross and the Federation of Moors and Christians 'Santa Cruz', in addition to some festive positions, whom he cited as "example of the defense and respect for the history and traditions that make up the living legacy of our Region".
Celdrán congratulated everyone "for the effort and enthusiasm that each year they deposit in these parties open to everyone, which are among the oldest in the region and that stand out for their uniqueness", since it is the only pilgrimage with soldiers of the Region.
In addition, religious acts in honor of the Holy Cross coexist with those based on the historical past of the municipality, the Moors and Christians.
This weekend cultural activities begin in the municipality with the VII Festival of Music Bands 'Villa de Abanilla', although the main events will be held between April 27 and May 6.
The big days of the festivities will be on May 1, with the great parade-stop of kábilas and mesnadas, and on the 3rd, when the Pilgrimage will take place with the patron saint until her hermitage of Mahoya.
The head of Tourism, Culture and Environment advanced that "it is expected that between 25,000 and 30,000 people visit the municipality during the holidays, and many of these people will come from other communities, which again makes us aware of the wealth and tourism and cultural potential that the Region of Murcia has, based on a living legacy of traditions, which from the Government we work to maintain and put in value ".
