The general director of Environment, Juan Madrigal, visited this week the beginning of the final phase of the works for the final closure and regeneration of the landfill of Proambiente in Abanilla, some works that have an investment of 1,818,716 euros euros and a term of twelve months.
Madrigal said that "we are in the final phase of this action that we are executing in a forced subsidiary and that will allow the environmental recovery of this entire landfill, after a lot of work and in collaboration with the Valencian Community, since part of the affected area belongs to Alicante. "
The works, executed by Tragsa, consist of covering with vegetal earth and revegetation of the vessels and areas with residues, previous waterproofing with clays and / or geotextile according to the zones.
Previously, the collection and regulation system of leachates, gas extraction and sealing was already undertaken.
After the same, the closure of the landfill will be declared, initiating the post-closure monitoring plan.
Since October 2015, the Autonomous Community has invested 3,338,563 euros in emergency actions in the landfill and affected areas of Abanilla, which include the works of adaptation to the Landfill Directive made and the costs of leachate management.
These actions are a forced subsidiary execution at the expense of the commercial company Proambiente SL, immersed in a bankruptcy proceeding.
