Citizens has registered an initiative in the Regional Assembly to question the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment for the situation in which are the restoration, closure and sealing of the Abanilla landfill, the term in which the completion will occur total of the same, as well as the management of leachates accumulated in one of the rafts of the installation.
Miguel López-Morell, regional deputy of Citizens, has noted during a visit to the landfill of Abanilla that "for a few days have completely paralyzed the works of sealing and closing this landfill, which is largely illegal, and before such situation there is a serious risk of spoiling all the works carried out so far and generating a serious environmental problem. "
"The accesses to the landfill are unattended in the facilities, and we have proof that one of the leachate ponds is at half capacity, without having managed them for quite some time, with the consequent problem of bad smells and risk to the environment, all this violates the restoration project of the area, "added Lopez-Morell.
The deputy of the orange training has stressed that it should be undertaken as soon as possible a program of monitoring and maintenance of the facility, at least until you can budget the amount necessary for the final closure of this landfill "because a continued rain could ruin the investment that has been made so far, since the current surveillance service is absolutely insufficient ".
