Social drones built by young students land at the Abanilla High School (21/02/2017)

The Educational Project "La Feria Aérea" is also developed in 65 centers between the province of Valencia, Alicante and Murcia.

The Miguel Hernández University of Elche, the FECYT (Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology), the company El Caleidoscopio and the Ayuntamiento de Abanilla have kicked off the third edition of the Air Fair, an educational innovation project whose The goal is for young people between 12 and 18 years old to learn how to build drones with a social or environmental purpose that has a positive impact on their environment.

For this, students of IES Abanilla choose a social problem of their most direct environment that with the help of the dron will try to solve.

The topics chosen range from the use of the device as first aid, collection of meteorological data, planting of the field, gender equality, fire extinguishing, food carrier to those places where people are hungry and many more social and environmental objectives.

About 3,000 students from more than 60 institutes throughout the Valencian Community and Murcia have already confirmed their attendance.

The proposal gives special attention to the female students to avoid the gender technological gap.

In short, the Air Fair seeks to promote technological vocations, as well as the technological empowerment of young students of ESO and Bachiller by building a dron and reflection on technology as a whole, as a powerful tool to improve the human environment, and Not just as an object of consumption.

It also seeks to imagine the air future by expanding knowledge and skills in an inclusive and cooperative learning and creation space for adolescents.

This project also serves to build bridges and stimulate communication between the public administration, the school community, innovation centers, universities and the various social agents involved in the problems that are intended to be solved with the designed drones, allowing the generation of educational innovation networks At local and provincial level.

The first stage of the project began in November with the formation of about 150 registered teachers and ends in February 2017.

Once the process of training of the teaching staff involved is completed, it will be in charge of guiding its students in the development of a project that will begin with a historical review of the models of the relations between technology and society.

He will continue with an introduction to flight theory and will finally focus on the design and construction of a dron.

As a colophon, in mid-May 2017, all the participating centers will be invited to present their works at the Air Fair, an event that will take place at the Miguel Hernández University of Elche and at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de The University of Valencia.

Here the participants will have to design and build the stands to show the other participants the social and artistic benefits of their flying artefacts, and give a presentation explaining how they have managed the project.

The event will end with a flight display of all the drones presented at the Fair.

In the project, the IES Abanilla and the Abanilla Abanilla City Council participate, which from their Department of Education have supported it, thus strengthening their commitment to encourage and promote scientific-technical knowledge among the youngest.

In addition, 39 municipalities of the province of Valencia and 8 of Alicante participate.

The design, structure and implementation of the Air Fair is carried out by the company specialized in science and innovation, El Caleidoscopio, and has been possible thanks to the collaboration of Lot Amorós and the Flone project, who inspired this project with the collaboration Of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology - Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.
