Ecologists in Action has signed a collaboration agreement with the City of Abanilla to carry out conservation actions in the Natural Protected Area (ENP) Humedal de Ajauque and Rambla Salada, and Fluvial Custody in the Fluvial Natural Reserve (RNF) of the Chícamo River .
Ecologists in Action, with two decades working for the defense of the environment and volunteer actions in different points of the Natural Protected Area (ENP) Humedal de Ajauque and Rambla Salada, and in the Natural Reserve Fluvial (RNF) of the Chícamo River, recently declared at the proposal of the organization, from its birth to the Partidor.
Among the eight existing in the Segura basin, it is the only one in the territory of the Region of Murcia.
Establishing collaboration with the City of Abanilla was therefore a natural step, thus establishing common objectives that are drawn from the statutory principles of Ecologists in Action and the obligations of the town hall on environmental conservation within its territory.
The agreement between Ecologists in Action and the City of Abanilla, was ratified with the signature of the Mayor, Mr. Ezequiel R. Alonso Gaona, and the President of Ecologists in Action, Ms. Ana M.ª García Albertos, on February 15 2019. The agreement in question includes the terms collaboration and promotion of river care, its environment, the recovery of riparian forest and palm groves in the aforementioned spaces, which from both sides are projected or promoted in the next four years, extendable .
On the part of Ecologists in Action, a program "Volunteering in channels 2019" is being developed in Chícamo, with the collaboration of Tragsatec (dependent on the Segura Hydrographic Confederation).
On Sunday 17 the second day of volunteering took place within the framework of this program, with an influx of more than 40 participants who contributed their effort and time in a disinterested way, enjoying at the end of the food that the organization offers in all organized events .
Some 250 m2 of riverbank forest have already been recovered, after eliminating the canes (Arundo donax) that saturated the space.
In total, more than 3.5 m3 of rhizomes were extracted from the ground with their respective canes, which will be evacuated from the environment by the organization, for its crushing and composting.
Likewise, the Recovery Project of the hypersaline and avifauna wetland wetland in the Wetlands of Ajauque and Rambla Salada is also being carried out, with the support of Fundación Biodiversidad, of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition.
On the part of the City council of Abanilla visits and routes are developed with the purpose of making known the rich natural patrimony of this Municipality, from guided visits to the restored flour mill of the Chícamo river, to routes through the millenary olive grove with final tasting of the best oils that in this region they are produced, happening through ramblas and gastronomy, all this can be consulted in the Tourist Office of this Municipality.
In short, the programs of both sides converge and, thanks to the diversification of actions and the coordination between them, aspects related to education and environmental awareness, promotion of volunteering and knowledge of the local environment aimed at all collective.
