These figures show the effort both by citizens, increasingly involved with environmental issues, as local entities, the Government of the Region of Murcia and Ecoembes to strengthen infrastructure and bring more recycling to citizens in their day to day.
Murcia's commitment to the environment, materialized through recycling, will reach an exceptional figure this year, as a result of the joint effort carried out by all its citizens.
According to forecasts for the end of the year of the regional government, its administrations and Ecoembes, the organization that takes care of the environment by coordinating the recycling of domestic packaging, Murcia will recycle in the yellow container the one destined for plastic containers, cans and briks 8% more than last year.
In addition, each citizen will recycle 1,040 containers of this type.
These data, which have been presented this morning Javier Celdrán, Regional Minister of Murcia, and Alberto Fernández, manager of Ecoembes in the Region of Murcia, reflect the increasing involvement of Murcia with the environment.
At a time of growing global concern for pollution, climate change or plastics, citizens of the community show their responsibility to their environment through individual gestures such as recycling, whose benefits for the environment are direct, both in terms of saving CO2 emissions as in water and energy consumption, as well as to keep natural spaces free of trash (waste left by human beings in nature).
On the other hand, these figures are also the result of the joint effort carried out by the Government of the Region of Murcia, the municipalities and Ecoembes to constantly optimize the recycling system.
In addition to the 14,331 containers distributed by the community and the improvements in the collection routes, it is worth mentioning the start-up of initiatives such as the "EducaenEco School Network", which has the support of 202 primary schools that promote recycling in their day by day involving the entire educational community.
It also highlights the initiative of Ecoembes and Ecoalf, 'Upcycling the Oceans', a project developed with the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Region of Murcia, the Regional Federation of Fishermen of Murcia and the European Environment Association, which has the objective of collecting the waste from the seabed and then recycling it and, among other things, transforming it into first quality yarn that allows the creation of fabrics.
Equally noteworthy are the actions implemented to incorporate selective collection in the HORECA channel.
"We can not deny that, more and more, citizens are aware of the environmental challenges we face as a society and how each of us, with small gestures, can contribute to improving this situation. in the region they have experienced constant growth in recent years, but the forecasts for 2018 also reflect that Murcia is committed to recycling as a tool to take care of the environment, however, we can not relax, we must continue to make progress in this regard because there is still a lot to do, "said Alberto Fernández.
For his part, the counselor, Javier Celdrán, wanted to emphasize that this progressive increase in the data of separate collection and recycling of waste "is a reflection of the increasing involvement of Murcia, administrations and companies with respect and The protection of the environment In recent years we have incorporated into our day to day a gesture as everyday as that of separating waste, a simple gesture available to all thanks to which it is possible to reduce CO2 emissions, water consumption , energy and raw materials and keep natural spaces clean, all this also promoting economic development and the creation of 'green' jobs. "
The blue container, also more full
In addition to more full yellow containers, it is also expected that the recycling of paper and cardboard containers will experience a considerable increase this year, growing by 7.2% compared to 2017, thanks to the fact that each Murcia will recycle 469 containers in the blue container.
