The deputy of the Socialist Parliamentary Group has requested the appearance in the Plenary of the Assembly of the Minister of Employment, Universities, Business and Environment, to explain the work done so far and what is the current situation of Abanilla landfill.
The last time the regional government appeared in the Assembly to discuss this issue was in 2016.
"We want the regional government to inform us of the latest events that occurred in the landfill of Abanilla due to the accumulation of leachates, and to tell us what plans the Regional Ministry has for the withdrawal and treatment of the same, given the refusal of the two treatment plants Molina de Segura and Murcia to receive them ".
The regional government has acknowledged that there are not enough technical and economic resources to remove the thousands of cubic meters of leached pollutants stored, at least in the short term.
Fernandez showed his concern for the damage caused by these facilities, not only environmental, but also the health of the residents of the municipality of Abanilla, "who continue to suffer, and more now in the middle of summer, the drawbacks of odors and insects before hundreds of cumulative cubic meters of leached ".
He recalled that tons of garbage of all kinds, including remains of hospital material, have been thrown into the Abanilla landfill.
"The Popular Party has lost a lot of time with this dump and has not been diligent to solve a problem that is already too long."
